  • Sign up for the last ever Argos collections on 27 January before our corporate partnership with the high street giant ends.


  • Macmillan’s Mammoth Quiz on 23 February is the world’s largest simultaneous quiz (we hold the Guinness World Record for it) – why not get a team together, or organise one yourself?
  • The UK Volunteer Forum’s first meeting of 2018 brings together Macmillan volunteer representatives from across the country to share their experience and help improve the Macmillan volunteer experience locally and nationally.
  • Student Volunteering Week takes place 20-26 February with plenty of opportunities for students to get involved in supporting our cause.


  • The first 2018 edition of Volunteer News is out – sign up now to make sure you receive inspiring stories, new ideas and volunteer news from across the UK.
  • Applications open to attend the 2018 Volunteer Conference and Awards – look out for details of how to secure your place.
  • The Macmillan Challenge Events season begins – we’d love you to take part or come along and help us to put on the events themselves.


  • It’s a bumper month for marathons! We’ll be cheering, clapping and high-fiving our runners on across the UK. We’re supporting marathons in places like Brighton, London, Manchester, Blackpool, Wales and Stirling – so join us on the track or on the sidelines.


  • There are now over 4,500 Macmillan Nurses so take the chance to celebrate them with us on International Nurses Day on 12 May.
  • One of the biggest dates on any Macmillan calendar, the annual Volunteer Conference and Awards, is taking place in Blackpool on 17 and 18 May.


  • Our Annual Report will be released, celebrating all the great things you’ve helped us to achieve.
  • 1-7 June is Volunteers Week, an annual celebration of our volunteers’ amazing contributions. With regional recognition events happening across the UK, look out for one happening near you.
  • The brand new Our Achievements in a Nutshell will be published so you can see the massive impact of Macmillan’s volunteers last year.
  • On 13 June invite our volunteers to help us collect at Brighton Takeover. We will be raising money for the Horizon Centre. 


  • We’re proud to support everyone, irrespective of race, gender, age, sexual orientation, so look out for Macmillan at gay pride parades across the country.


  • We tend to have fewer events at this time of year because everyone’s off on their summer holidays. But our founder Douglas Macmillan was born on 10 August 1884 – so raise a glass to him!


  • The Great North Run on 9 September is the largest half marathon in the world, so what better place to support us?
  • Macmillan’s flagship fundraising event, World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on 28 September is a great way to get involved.
  • In support of World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, you can volunteer at collections at M&S stores nationwide throughout September.


  • Do you think someone has gone above and beyond? Nominate them for our Volunteer Awards 2019 so they get the recognition they deserve! Nominations run throughout October 2018.
  • Will you be a sober hero and Go Sober for October?


  • Take the opportunity to celebrate your volunteer manager on International Volunteer Managers’ Day, remember, remember, it’s the 5 November!
  • Tuesday 27 November is Giving Tuesday, a national initiative to encourage people to give to charity following Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
  • Join us at the prestigious Guildhall in London for the ever-so-festive Macmillan Winter Gala!


  • Carols by Candlelight events around the UK will get you in the festive spirit.
