  • 5k - 109 lengths - 3 hour time limit

Once signed up you will receive a free Macmillan t-shirt, swimming cap and wetsuit arm band, along with your fundraising pack full of training and fundraising tips. Under 18's

Participants must be 9yrs+ on the day of the event and all under 18's will be asked to complete and return a parental consent form. If you are under 18 then please enter discount code UNDER18SWIM, when prompted, to reduce the registration fee to £17.50.

Relay Teams

You can have up to 4 members in your relay team. When signing up please use the following codes when prompted to keep the registration fee to £25.00 per team:

  • Team of 2 - TEAM2

Please note, separate waves will be held for each distance so you cannot swim as part of a relay team with participants taking on a different distance.

We will be with you every stroke of the way and the sponsorship money you raise will help us to ensure no one faces cancer alone. So, sign up today and make a difference for people affected by cancer.

If you're unable to make our Lewes event, go freestyle and take on your own All Out Swim, in your own pool, in your own time. Click here for more details.

What is All Out Swim?

All Out Swim is Macmillan Cancer Support’s very own outdoor swim series, to raise money for people affected by cancer, held in 5 outdoor pools across the UK.

How do I get a place in All Out Swim?

To apply for a place simply complete our online registration form. There is a £25 non-refundable entry fee for over 18’s and a £17.50 non-refundable entry fee for under 18’s, which you will need to pay by credit/debit card when signing up.

Please note, all under 18’s will receive a parental consent form which needs to be signed by a responsible parent or guardian and returned to Macmillan prior to the event to take part.

How old do you have to be to take part?

You need to be 9yrs+ to take part in All Out Swim and, as above, we will need a signed parental consent form for all under 18’s.

Do I have to fundraise and, if so, how much money do I have to raise?

We ask that all participants collect sponsorship, to help raise as much money as possible for people affected by cancer, and suggest aiming for a £100 sponsorship goal. There is no minimum pledge but we would encourage you to ask as many people as possible to sponsor you and we’re sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised with how much you can collect.

What time does the event start?

In the lead up to the event, you will be asked if you have a preferred session time which we will try our best to accommodate. If we do not hear from you, we will allocate you a time.

You should aim to arrive around 45 minutes before your start time.

What support will Macmillan give me?

When you enter All Out Swim we will send you a fundraising pack in the post which will contain a fundraising guide, link to our online training guide and sponsorship form amongst other things. We will also send you a free swimming cap, wetsuit arm band and t-shirt (if you choose to order one when signing up). We will always be on the other end of the phone in case you have any queries and will, of course, be there to support you on the day and present you with your well-deserved medal.

Can I swim as part of a relay team?

Yes. There will be a limited number of relay team places available for teams of up to four people. You can decide how many lengths each team member swims, so long as you cover the distance applied for. Teams will need to operate a relay system with only one team member in the water at any one time.

Do I need to wear a wetsuit?

Wetsuits are not compulsory for this event with the exception of under 18’s at Brockwell Lido. Any participant under 18 will need to wear a wetsuit at our Brockwell event in order to take part.

We would strongly advise wearing a wetsuit at all venues if you are under 18, not used to swimming in cold water or signing up to take part at one of the venues where the water temperature is particularly low. In these circumstances you may also want to consider wearing swimming socks/gloves.

Parents/guardians will be asked to sign a waiver if a young participant (under 18) is taking part without a wetsuit at our Letchworth, Lewes and Cheltenham venues, and over 18’s will be asked to sign a waiver if the temperature of the water drops below 16˚c at all venues.

What temperature will the water be?

We can’t say for sure and it will very much depend on the venue and the weather at the time, but please see estimated temperatures below. We strongly advise practising swimming in cold water before the event.

  • Letchworth 23˚C – 25˚C
  • Lewes 17˚C – 22˚C
  • Guildford 20˚C – 28˚C
  • Cheltenham 19˚C – 21˚C
  • Brockwell 9˚C – 15˚C

Will I need to train for the event?

Yes. You will need to make sure you are fully prepared for the challenge and the earlier you start your training the better. As above you will receive the link to our online training guide within your pack so do use this as a starting point.

Do I have to swim front crawl?

No, you can swim whichever stroke is best for you. You can stick to one stroke or mix them up; it’s completely up to you.

How fast will I need to swim?

The event is not a race and you should swim at a pace which is comfortable for you however, due to daylight restrictions, we will have a time limit of 1.5 hours for the 2k session, and a 3 hour time limit for the 5k session.

How will I count my lengths and will the swim be timed?

It will be down to you to count your own lengths and we suggest getting friends and family to help. Unfortunately, we are unable to do this for you. We will have a timing clock if you would like to time your total swim time.

Will we be swimming in lanes?

Yes, you will swim in lanes according to your predicted finishing time to allow you to swim with participants of a similar ability. As such, please try and be as accurate as possible when giving us your finishing time. We will allocate you a lane on the day.

What happens if I get injured?

IIf you get injured while training, we recommend you contact your GP, physio, or specialist sports injury clinic. They will be able to advise if you are fit enough to swim. If you do need to withdraw you will need to inform us as soon as possible. Unfortunately, registration fees are non-refundable.

Will there be somewhere to leave baggage?

In venues where lockers are not available there will be a small baggage marquee on site, but we would encourage you to leave any valuables at home or with friends/family. The baggage marquee will be fully manned at all times, but anyone leaving baggage here does so at their own risk.

Are there changing facilities and showers on site?

Yes, swimmers can change at the lido and use the on-site showers.

Is there food and drink available?

Yes, there will be snacks and refreshments available on the day.

Will there be lifeguards at the event?

Yes, the Lido will be providing full lifeguard coverage for the duration of the event.

Can I get a refund if I can’t take part?

Unfortunately all registration fees are non-refundable.

Will spectators be allowed at the event?

Yes, of course. We encourage you to bring friends and family along to support you as you swim. The more the merrier!
