Macmillan and the Western Health and Social Care Trust have unveiled joint plans for a new health and wellbeing campus at Altnagelvin Area Hospital.
The new development includes a £1-million Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre beside Agnes Jones House, a listed building which will be refurbished and used as a centre for the management of other long term and chronic conditions. The two buildings, old and new, will be linked by a landscaped garden and walkway.
Macmillan Senior Development Manager, Paula Kealey, says: 'The Western Trust covers a huge area and that’s why we also have plans to provide information points in Omagh and Enniskillen because, once people finish their hospital treatment, they need information and support services close to home.'
Construction work is due to begin this Autumn and it’s hoped the new campus will be fully operational by late 2016 to coincide with the opening of Altnagelvin’s cross-border radiotherapy centre.
