The Beckfields staff and Liz Airey, Macmillan Fundraising Manager
A local pub have raised £32,184 to help local people affected by cancer.
The Beckfields pub has been supporting Macmillan for over 6 years. Since the first comedy night they held, they have organised family fun days, raffles, tombolas, car boot sales and taken part in an abseil. They've also just had their annual summer raffle which raised an outstanding £4,020, with a £1,000 donation from the Yarm Pool League.
Gary Todd, pub local and Macmillan supporter behind all the fundraising, said ‘We are delighted to support such an amazing charity and I, personally, would like to thank every single person or group who has given donations and supported us to make our fundraising such a success.’
Every year 1,090 people will hear the devastating news they have cancer in the Stockton area and 6,300 people are living with and beyond cancer.
Macmillan provides medical, emotional, financial, and practical help for cancer patients, from specialist cancer nurses to grants for cancer patients with money problems. We have recently seen the opening of a drop-in cancer centre in North Tees with Macmillan professionals supporting people affected by cancer.
'Sadly the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year and that means Macmillan’s support for people living with cancer is in more demand than ever', Liz Airey, Macmillan Fundraising Manager.
'It’s only through the fantastic support we get from local businesses like The Beckfields that we can be there for people affected by cancer and their families when they need us most.'
