Sara Connor, Macmillan Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialist at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, has been recognised as an outstanding nurse through the Birmingham Mail Pride of Nursing campaign.
Sara attended a reception in Birmingham on Monday 27 April 2015 with nurses from hospitals across the city to celebrate this achievement and recognise her hard work and dedication to looking after patients in her care.
Mandie, one of Sara’s colleagues in the colorectal nursing team who nominated Sara, said: ‘We nominated Sara for several reasons. She has a wealth of knowledge and expertise and is constantly striving to improve both the service and the patient experience.
‘Sara has been selfless in maintaining the high standards of the service and is very conscious of the needs of her colleagues. She is very fair and loyal to her colleagues. She is constantly encouraging us to develop our skills and education. We would all like to take this opportunity to say we are so very proud of her and everything that she has achieved.’
Sara said: ‘It was a complete surprise to be nominated by the team but I am thrilled and had a wonderful time attending the ceremony, I felt very special, it was a real honour. Macmillan has been hugely supportive in my development and I am very excited to be undertaking a new role soon as a Macmillan Survivorship CNS where I will strive to continue to reach and improve the lives of those living with cancer.’
