Artist's impression of the East Surrey Macmillan Cancer Support Centre
Newly released images showcasing the interior of the new state-of-the-art cancer centre planned for East Surrey Hospital have been unveiled. The £1.5 million build will be the first of its kind in the region when it opens its doors in late 2015.
The artist’s impressions of the East Surrey Macmillan Cancer Support Centre’s layout evoke the welcoming setting that will greet cancer patients, their family and friends. With an open, modern and friendly ambience, the design is far removed from the traditional treatment environment.
Designed by experts and people affected by cancer, the centre will provide all-round support in a calm, non-clinical environment, with the simple goal of helping people affected by cancer to live their lives as well as possible.
The new centre will offer the very best in holistic care and support in the heart of the community. It will put an end to the added stress on cancer patients who have to take at least a 20-mile round trip to the nearest cancer support centre in Crawley, or even further afield to Guildford or Purley.
Jane Penny, Lead Cancer Nurse for Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, said:
'It is fantastic to see these images, which go a step towards bringing the centre to life. It shows the peaceful and friendly place that our cancer patients, their family and friends will soon be able to attend to receive the support they need.'
Helene Poursain, Macmillan's area fundraising manager for Surrey and Kent, spoke about her excitement at seeing the artist’s impressions:
'Macmillan has been funding and creating healing cancer environments with the NHS for more than 30 years. I hope these images of what will be created at East Surrey Hospital will inspire people to help make it a reality by joining forces with us to raise the vital funds we need.'
