4 July 2013
To celebrate Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, official sugar partner Silver Spoon, the home-grown sugar people, has launched the Silver Spoon Local Little Hero Awards.
Silver Spoon and Macmillan Cancer Support are inviting people to nominate a young person under the age of 18 in their area who is believed to be a Local Little Hero. Whether they have helped look after a relative who is unwell, gone to great lengths to make Mother’s Day extra special, or done something fantastic to raise money for charity, now is the time for some well deserved recognition.
Master Pâtissier Eric Lanlard, star of Channel 4’s Baking Mad with Eric Lanlard, will be judging the entries. The ultimate Silver Spoon Local Little Hero will win the money can’t buy prize of spending the day with Eric when he will teach them some of his trade secrets and bake a cake of their choice to take home. What’s more, 10 runners up will win a year’s supply of baking goodies from Silver Spoon which will come in handy when preparing for a Macmillan coffee morning.
Nominators can enter their worthy suggestions for a Silver Spoon Local Little Hero Award by describing their nominee in less than 100 words at www.macmillan.org.uk/littlehero, the deadline 16th July 2013.
Eric Lanlard said: 'I am honoured to be supporting Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning. I am especially looking forward to judging the ultimate Silver Spoon Local Little Hero competition and meeting the winner. Baking and eating cake should be a national pastime as far as I'm concerned, and what a great way to help raise much needed funds and to support the fantastic work of Macmillan Cancer Support.'
Taking place on 27 September, Macmillan Cancer Support’s flagship fundraiser the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning encourages people to get together with friends, family and colleagues to enjoy a slice of cake and a coffee and help raise over £15million. These valuable funds will go a long way to help Macmillan ensure that no one has to face cancer alone.
Official sugar partner Silver Spoon is proud to be the only sugar grown in Britain, and with a great range of baking sugars and a passion for sweet treats, Silver Spoon products are a must have for a successful coffee morning.

About Macmillan Cancer Support
More than one in three of us will get cancer. For most of us it will be the toughest fight we ever face. And the feelings of isolation and loneliness that so many people experience make it even harder.
But you don’t have to go through it alone. The Macmillan team is with you every step of the way.
We are the nurses and therapists helping you through treatment. The experts on the end of the phone. The advisers telling you which benefits you’re entitled to. The volunteers giving you a hand with the everyday things. The campaigners improving cancer care. The community there for you online, any time. The supporters who make it all possible.
Together, we are all Macmillan Cancer Support.
