MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT WELCOMES RENEWED FOCUS ON CANCER BY NHS ENGLAND
Responding to the publication by NHS England of an update to the Five Year Forward View, Lynda Thomas, Chief Executive of Macmillan Cancer Support said:
“We are very pleased, on behalf of cancer patients and their families, that NHS England has made cancer care a priority.
“Waiting to start treatment once you have had a cancer diagnosis can be agonising, so it is reassuring to see the new commitment to improve regularly missed cancer waiting time targets.
“As more patients survive cancer, the health service will need to adapt to ensure there is a strong focus on improving support to help people to live well in the long term.
“As with all diseases doctors and nurses working in cancer care are struggling to cope with current demand and pressures. The number of people with cancer is only going to increase, and it is essential that the NHS creates a sustainable workforce that is fit for the future. Macmillan Cancer Support will continue to work with the NHS throughout the country to support the needs of cancer patients.
“Macmillan Cancer Support will continue to work with the NHS throughout the country to support the needs of cancer patients."
