Rebecca interned in the Corporate Partnerships team. She felt her experience gave her the space she wanted to develop her skills within a supportive environment,

and she enjoyed leaving work each day knowing her project was having a direct positive impact on people affected by cancer.

Rebecca's story

Interning at Macmillan provided me with an insight into the workings of a large charitable organisation. The internship scheme in place at Macmillan is designed so there's time for learning, development, and training.

The social aspect is great as well, with plenty of opportunities to socialise with the other interns, share learning, and attend career development and CV writing workshops.

You are constantly encouraged to think about your own personal development, whilst doing work that is meaningful.

I wanted to gain experience of working in the third sector, and Macmillan was perfect because it has such a wide variety of teams. There's a team to suit every individual, so at least one will match your skills and interests - whether that be research, fundraising, politics or digital media.

The charity is very innovative, so it was exciting to gain experience in such a dynamic environment, and to be involved in work that genuinely benefits both society and individuals. Everyday is a new and exciting challenge, and you can go home feeling a real sense of achievement that the work you do will impact positively on the lives of those people affected by cancer that most need support and advice.

One of the best aspects, I found, was the encouragement you are given to take ownership of your individual project, and you are constantly encouraged to think about your own personal development. In the three-month scheme, you really become part of your team and carry out valuable and interesting work. You are allowed space to develop the skills that you choose, with wonderful support from staff and internship managers.
