Every year around 2,800 people are diagnosed with cancer in Somerset. As this number increases, the necessity for local Macmillan services continues to grow. It is only with your help that we can raise the £320,000 that is required to fund the services that are needed in our local area.
In Somerset, supporters in the county have been able to fund 19 Macmillan professionals over the years ranging from nurses, doctors, therapists, dieticians and an information support manager who are all specialists in cancer care. We have also opened a fast track gynaecological clinic at Yeovil District Hospital in 2006.

We also work with independent cancer self help and support groups and have recently agreed to give a major grant to Somerset Cancer Care to enable the expansion of their C.A.F.E – Cancer For Everyone, drop in clinics in Yeovil and Weston Super Mare. We are also still supporting the national CancerLine and we now have the Macmillan YouthLine, which aims to help people aged 12 - 21 years old. This is providing such a vital service and aims to give people the right information about cancer at the right time.
The Macmillan Grants are also making a difference to people living with cancer in Somerset. It all adds up, hospital parking costs, travel expenses, extra heating and different clothes. Last year, we gave over £46,648 to help with the costs of cancer.
The Somerset team made up of Claire and Katie are working more closely with Jo and Nicole who form the Bristol, Bath and North Somerset team. This is because many people living with cancer will benefit from the services in both areas.
