Salivary glands - image description

The illustration is a side view of the head and neck. It shows the position of three salivary glands – the parotid, submandibular and sublingual glands. It also shows the lower jaw bone. The parotid gland is shown as a large, roughly oval shape. It is just in front of the ear, towards the back of the lower jaw bone. The submandibular gland is in front of the parotid gland. It is half the size and is by the edge of the lower jaw bone, towards the back of the throat. The sublingual gland is further forward and is smaller than the parotid gland. It is towards the front of the chin.
