Bladder - image description

This diagram shows the stages of non-invasive bladder cancer and the structure of the bladder. The inside of the bladder is lined with a thin layer called the urothelium. Next there is a thin layer of connective tissue. Then there is a thick layer made of muscle. Carcinoma in situ, or CIS, is only inside the bladder lining. The stage Ta is shown growing from the bladder lining like a mushroom. The stage T1 is shown spreading into the connective tissue of bladder from the bladder lining.
