Isolated limb perfusion (ILP) - image description

The illustration shows the legs of someone having isolated limb perfusion for a tumour on the lower left leg. Surrounding the leg is a warming blanket. At the top of the left thigh there is a tourniquet. Just below the tourniquet, the illustration shows a surgical wound. This exposes an artery that is coloured red and a vein that is coloured blue. The illustration shows a tube leading from the vein. It shows the flow of blood to a pump and then on to an oxygenator where oxygen is added. Next, the illustration shows the blood flowing to a heater. The illustration shows a syringe, containing drugs, that are being injected into the tube. The tube then leads to the artery and back into the leg. Also shown in the illustration is a thermometer that has two probes connected to the leg.
