Catherine Sutherland Skinner has been volunteering with us for 37 years. Last year she was awarded a UK Honour (MBE) for her truly inspirational and dedicated voluntary work. She has also been highly commended at the Third Sector Volunteer Awards and was named the Macmillan Sir Hugh Dundas Volunteer of the Year in 2009.
Catherine first got involved with Macmillan when she organised a house to house collection. With no access to transport, she regularly walked 17 miles to complete the collection. She continues to do this to the present day.
Catherine went on to become chairman of her local fundraising committee. Under her leadership the committee raised more than £400,000.
Catherine was centre to raising funds for the build of a new oncology unit in Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, and continued to show her dedication to the cause by volunteering at the unit which is 40 miles away from her home, and a two hour trip both ways.
Catherine tirelessly continues to promote Macmillan at every opportunity by speaking at group meetings, organising coffee mornings, sales of work, fishing competitions and book sales. She is an inspiration.
Three cheers for Catherine, a star volunteer. Hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray, hip hip hooray!
