Door to door and direct fundraising

Get Informed

Every year, thousands of people decide to support our work after speaking to one of our fundraisers.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters, our door to door fundraisers will aim to secure over £10 million for Macmillan over the next five years. That's enough money to fund 200 nurses for a year, who could support 27,000 people in that time.

We’re currently conducting a door to door fundraising campaign. This means that our trained fundraisers may be in your area, and could knock at your door and ask to speak with you about our vital work.

As well as being a cost-effective and efficient form of fundraising, our door to door campaign allows us to spread the word about our services and ensure people know how to reach us if they need our support.

When supporters set up a direct debit with our fundraisers, they provide Macmillan with a steady, reliable stream of income that helps us to maintain and expand our crucial services.

Got questions? Look at our frequently asked questions below

What is door to door fundraising?

Our professional fundraisers visit homes in designated areas around the UK to ask supporters to give a regular donation to Macmillan via Direct Debit.
We use a specialist agency called Home Fundraising who help coordinate and carry out our campaign.

Who are your fundraisers and how will I know if they are genuine?

Our door to door fundraisers work for an agency called Home Fundraising.
They are typically aged between 20 and 35, wear Macmillan branded jackets or t-shirts and carry a branded ID card with their photo.
They will also be carrying Macmillan literature, such as welcome packs and direct debit forms with the FRSB logo. The fundraisers will only ask for a Direct Debit – they will never ask for cash donations.
They work between 3pm and 9pm on a weekday, and between 12 noon and 6pm on a weekend.
If you require further reassurance, please contact our Fundraising Support Centre on 0300 1000 200 or email

Why do we use this method of fundraising?

Our door to door fundraising campaign is a safe, secure and cost-effective way to initiate support and raise an astonishing amount of money – money that will help us reach and improve the lives of many more people affected by cancer. It is also a great way to raise awareness of the services we provide, as our fundraisers give our support line number to everyone they speak to.

Is your door to door fundraising regulated?

We are a member of The Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA).
The PFRA is a self regulating membership body established to coordinate fundraising activity and promote quality, integrity and transparency.
The PFRA works with charities, professional fundraising organisations, Local Authorities and the police to ensure high standards in the industry and to resolve complaints. All fundraisers carry a copy of the PFRA Code of Practice.

Are your fundraisers trained?

Yes. Our fundraisers are continuously trained throughout the year in order to maintain the high standard that we expect anyone who represents Macmillan to uphold.

What time do your fundraisers work?

Our fundraisers knock between 3pm and 9pm. This is necessary in order to reach people when they are home from work. If a Macmillan fundraiser contacts you outside of these hours, please contact our Fundraising Support Centre on 0300 1000 200 or email

Do fundraisers ask for cash?

No. Our fundraisers are not permitted to ask for cash, they are only allowed to ask for donations through Direct Debit.
If a fundraiser asks you for cash, they may not be genuine so please report this to the Fundraising Support Centre. Please contact them on 0300 1000 200 or email
Direct Debits are one of the most effective ways of giving to charity. It reduces administration costs and generates a steady and reliable stream of income, allowing us to plan for the future.
