Run in the world’s biggest and best marathon event.
Run in the world’s biggest and best marathon event.
Registration is currently closed
The general New York Marathon registration is a lottery held on the race website. The 2013 lottery took place from 24 April to 24 May 2013, and was drawn shortly after.
If you have been successful and secured a place in the lottery, we’d love you to join Team Macmillan. Simply register above. Alternatively you can email us your details to email@example.com, or call us on 020 7840 4915 and we will add you to the team and send you out a fundraising and training pack.
We’ll support you every step of the way and simply ask you to raise as much sponsorship as you can.
If you were not successful in the lottery, or you would prefer to secure your place immediately, you can still apply for a guaranteed place in the marathon through a Team Macmillan travel package (see below).
The New York Marathon Road Runners, the race organisers, will contact you directly to let you know if you have been successful in obtaining a place in the 2013 ING New York City Marathon through the lottery.
A list of all registered participants can also be found online at the New York Marathon website once the lottery system has been drawn. If you have any queries regarding your lottery entry, please contact them directly by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are successful in the lottery system, we'd love to have you on the team. However, if you are unsuccessful all is not lost, as you can apply for a Team Macmillan travel package place.
We are unable to take any new package registrations in the New York Marathon. If you would like us to contact you when packages for the 2014 event are available then please email us on email@example.com and we will be in touch with details of the 2014 packages and how to register.
We're offering three different packages for the ING New York Marathon, with different accommodation, flights and costs.
The fee for package one is £499. For this we ask you to raise a minimum of £1,850. This includes race entry and three nights twin share at the Belvedere Hotel. You will need to organise your own flights and transfers.
The fee for package two is £499. You will need to raise a minimum of £2,350. This includes race entry, flights and transfers. You will need to organise your own accommodation.
The fee for package three is £499. You will need to commit to raising £3,700. This includes race entry, flights, airport transfers, and three nights twin share at the Belvedere Hotel.
A Team Macmillan travel package place is an entry into the New York Marathon that includes travel and/or accommodation. Race-entry only places in the New York Marathon are not available to non-US citizens, so the only way you can secure a place is as part of a package (unless you are successful in the lottery). At Macmillan we work with Sports Tours International who provide three types of packages in the New York Marathon for UK residents.
With regards to sponsorship, we ask all our Team Macmillan travel package runners to raise a minimum sponsorship amount (see below: How much do I have to raise).
Package 1 and Package 3 accommodation is at the Belvedere Hotel (first come first served basis) on a twin or triple share basis for 3 nights. Once the Belvedere Hotel is full runners will be accommodated in the Travel Inn Hotel.
Single rooms and additional night/s accommodation are available but you will be required to pay a supplement. If you have friends or family members who would like to join you, please call Sports Tours International on 0161 703 8161 to book or for any further travel information.
Accommodation is not included in Package 2.
For Package 2, flights are operated by Virgin Atlantic from London Heathrow to New York JFK.
On Package 3, flights are operated by British Airways from London Heathrow to New York JFK, and airport transfers to the Belvedere Hotel and Travel Inn Hotel is included both ways. Connections are available from most UK airports where BA offer a service, but will incur a supplement fee.
Please visit the Sports Tours website for more details on the flight dates and please call Sports Tours on 0161 703 8161 for details on possible connections.
We ask all our Team Macmillan travel package runners to raise the following amounts per package.
Package 1: Hotel and Race Entry – £1,850
Package 2: Flights and Race Entry – £2,350
Package 3: Hotel, Flights and Race Entry – £3,700
The full amount is due in one month after the event.
Please make all cheques payable to Macmillan Cancer Support. Of course, we'll give you all the encouragement and support you'll need to make sure you smash this target.
If you have your own place then we just ask you to raise as much as possible and we'll provide you with the same level of care and support that our Team Macmillan travel package runners receive.
Your 'own place' means that you entered the ING New York Marathon lottery system and received an email directly from New York Marathon Road Runners, stating that you were successful in this lottery system and have been given a place directly by them. Plus, you would have paid an entry fee directly to New York Marathon Road Runners.
If this is the case, congratulations and we'd be delighted for you to join Team Macmillan by registering above, or by emailing us your details at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phoning 020 7840 4915. In regards to sponsorship, we ask you to raise as much as possible.
When you join Team Macmillan you will be supported throughout your entire New York City Marathon experience. In addition to our initial fundraising and training pack, we will send you regular newsletters full of tips to help you prepare for the big day.
You will also be invited to our pre-race pasta party the night before the big race, where you can stock up on carbs and meet your fellow team mates. And if that isn't enough, we will give you the loudest support possible throughout the race from our Team Macmillan cheer points.
Sports Tours International, our tour operator, can arrange for your package to be tailored to your requirements so that you can extend your stay in New York or take family or friends with you (availability permitting).
However, any additional costs incurred beyond our basic Team Macmillan package will need to be paid by you. Please visit the Sports Tours International website for more details and their booking form, or call 0161 703 8161.
Passport – you will need a full ten year passport valid for six months after your return is required. For more details please refer to the Sports Tours International website.
ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) – the USA has changed its entry procedures for travel to the USA under the Visa Waiver Programme and has introduced ESTA. Online completion of ESTA is now mandatory for all Visa Waiver Programme travellers.
Once you receive confirmation of your Team Macmillan place in the ING New York Marathon, it is essential that you complete the online ESTA application form and provide us with confirmation of your ESTA.
If you or any of your teammates get injured whilst training we recommend you contact your GP, physio or specialist sports injury clinic. They will be able to advise you if you are fit enough to run.
If you do need to withdraw you will need to let the race organisers, New York Marathon Road Runners, know as soon as possible. Please also let Macmillan know so that we can advise you about transferring your place.
If, for whatever reason, you find that you have to withdraw from the event you must notify us as soon as possible so we can cancel your travel bookings. Below are the cancellation fees per Sports Tours International, our Tour Operators:
84-56 days: 50% of package
55-28 days: 70% of package
27-15 days: 90% of package
Less than 15 days: 100% of package
All runners will be required to visit the Jacob Javits Convention Centre, Halls 3E, 11th Avenue at 35th Street, Manhattan, to register for the race. There are no exceptions to this, so do ensure you allow time in your schedule to go. The opening times are as follows (times shown are from the 2012 marathon):
Thursday 1 November 2012: 10am-8pm (7pm last admission)
Friday 1 November 2012: 10am-8pm (7pm last admission)
Saturday 3 November 2012: 9am-5pm (5pm last admission)
In order to register you will need your race registration card, which will be sent or emailed to you in mid-October, and your passport.
Failure to register will mean that you will not be permitted to take part in the marathon itself. The Centre is open to the general public and admission is free. For security reasons, attendees will be asked to show photo ID (please take your passport), and all bags and coats may be inspected. Please note there is no baggage storage available.
More details about the Centre and everything else you need to know will be contained in your Team Macmillan pre-race newsletters.
Your official marathon time is measured exclusively using ChronoTrack timing system. This system is similar to the ChampionChip system previously used to score the ING New York City Marathon in that each entrant will wear a timing device on their shoe that will be 'read' by mats.
However, the timing device will be a tag called a D-Tag, that you will receive attached to your race number. You must remove the D-Tag from your race number and attach it to your shoe prior to the race, following the instructions. The tag is secured to runners' shoes using adhesive and a plastic clip. The tag is disposable; it will not be collected after the race.
All participants in the ING New York City Marathon, including anyone who owns a ChampionChip, must wear the D-Tag in order to have their finish recorded. No ChampionChip timing equipment will be used at this race. No tag, no time!
Visit the ING New York Marathon website for more marathon information including international runners, travel suggestions, flight suggestions, course map, training info, local transport and much more.
