Taylor Wimpey

Taylor Wimpey has sponsored Macmillan’s House of Lords vs House of Commons Tug of War since 1987, helping to raise over £3 million for people affected by cancer.

The idea for the event came about over 27 years ago after a chance conversation between Macmillan and the then named Taylor Woodrow (now Taylor Wimpey) about the company’s logo featuring four men pulling on a rope. The homebuilder agreed to sponsor the pulls for one year, but the enduring agreement has lasted through its merger with George Wimpey to create Taylor Wimpey to present day.

In addition to its trophy winning men’s team, in 2013 Taylor Wimpey also introduced its first ever Tug of War ladies’ team who put on a fantastic performance, pulling together for the longest tug in the event’s history.

Pete Redfern, Taylor Wimpey’s Chief Executive and men’s team captain, said, 'Cancer has a terrible effect on the lives of so many people, so we were delighted to be able to continue our support for Macmillan Cancer Support for the 27th year. As one of the largest homebuilders in the UK, we strive to make a positive difference and actively encourage our employees to take part in various charitable and community activities across the country.'
