How do I apply for my own place?

Simply visit edinburgh-marathon.com and either login in to your ‘My Details’ account or if you are new to this race, please create a ‘My Details’ account. Once you have logged in to your account and completed your race entry, please tick that you wish to support Macmillan Cancer Support. There's no minimum sponsorship commitment, simply raise as much as you can and we'll support you every step of the way.

If you missed ticking the Macmillan box on your registration you can still join the team by signing up online on our website or by calling 020 7840 7878.

How do I apply for a Macmillan ‘Instant Charity Entry’ (ICE)?

Simply visit edinburgh-marathon.com and either login in to your ‘My Details’ account or if you are new to this race, please create a ‘My Details’ account. Once you have logged in to your account, click on 2014 Edinburgh Marathon ‘Enter online’,  then click on ‘Enter for Team Macmillan’, scroll down to ‘Get an Instant Charity Entry’ (ICE) and select 2014 Edinburgh Marathon. Then simply complete your details and this will come through to Macmillan automatically.

What is a Macmillan Instant Charity Entry (ICE)?

These are charity places that Macmillan Cancer Support have purchased directly from the Edinburgh Marathon race organisers, GSi Events. We require all runners on these places to raise a set amount of sponsorship. All marathon runners need to raise a minimum of £750 each.

What is your own place?

Your own place means that you have entered the online system for the Edinburgh Marathon directly through the official website at edinburgh-marathon.com. You will have paid your entry fee directly to the Edinburgh Marathon race organisers, GSi Events.

Once your place has been confirmed in the Edinburgh Marathon we'd be delighted if you join Team Macmillan. Simply fill in our online form, email edinburghmarathon@macmillan.org.uk or call 020 7840 7878 if you missed ticking to support Macmillan during the registration process.

How much do I have to raise?

If you have your own place there is no minimum sponsorship, we just ask that you raise as much as possible. If you have a Macmillan charity guaranteed place, there is a minimum sponsorship pledge:

EMF Marathon – £750 per runner
EMF Half Marathon – £300 per runner
EMF Hairy Haggis Team Relay – £750 per team of four runners
EMF 10K – £150 per runner
EMF 5K – £80 per runner
EMF Junior Races – there is no minimum sponsorship

Please note that Gift Aid cannot be included towards the above sponsorship amounts.  

This will be due in one month after the event, 25 June 2014. Of course we'll give you all the encouragement and support you'll need to make sure you smash this target.

What kind of support will Macmillan give me?

When you join Team Macmillan you will be supported throughout your entire Edinburgh Marathon Festival experience.

In addition to our initial fundraising pack and tailored training guide, we will send you regular newsletters full of tips to help you prepare for the big day. You will also be invited to our post-race Team Macmillan tent, where you will receive a huge congratulations on completing the big race, lots of pampering and a selection of refreshments.

And if that isn't enough, we will give you the loudest support possible throughout the race from our famous Macmillan cheer points.

Will Macmillan help me with my training?

Of course. When you sign up to run the Edinburgh Marathon Festival with Team Macmillan we will provide you with a marathon training guide, which has programmes for beginner, intermediate and advanced runners. Plus we'll send you regular e-newsletters full of top training tips, including advice from our Team Macmillan running ambassadors. We will also advise you of other useful sources of information to help you prepare for the big day.

What happens if I get injured?

If you get injured while training we recommend you contact your GP, physio or specialist sports injury clinic. They will be able to advise you if you are fit enough to run. If you do need to withdraw you will need to let the Edinburgh Marathon race organisers, GSi Events, know as soon as possible. Please also let Macmillan know so that we can advise you about transferring your place.

When will I get my race number?

Your race day pack will be sent to you directly from the Edinburgh Marathon race organisers, GSi Events, approximately two weeks prior to race day. This pack contains the official race programme, your race number and timing chip.

Do I have to pre-book transport or shuttle buses for race day?

Yes, you must pre-book transport and shuttle buses prior to race day. For more information or to purchase your tickets simply visit the shop at edinburgh-marathon.com.
