Can I volunteer if I'm under the age of 18?
Everyone is welcome at a Miles for Macmillan event but if you are 16–17 years of age you must either be accompanied by a responsible adult or bring with you a completed parent/guardian permission form. You can obtain this by emailing email@example.com.
If you are under 16 year of age you must be accompanied by an adult.
If you belong to a Community Group, your leader or teacher should complete a form for the group. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information and to request the relevant form.
I've registered. When can I expect to hear from you?
We will send you an email as soon as you submit your application online. Within 5 working days of receiving this, you’ll receive an email from your Event Manager with information on what to expect next.
You’ll also receive a Milesmaker pack no later than 3 weeks before your event which will contain everything you need for your role and on the day. In the mean time, if you have any questions, please email email@example.com.
Can I bring someone with me to volunteer at an event?
Please encourage them to sign up as a volunteer online before the event. If it’s too late to sign up online, simply bring them along with you and they can sign up at our Volunteer marquee – please arrive early. Please note, anyone under the age of 18 will need to be supervised by a responsible adult or bring with them a completed permission form from a parent or legal guardian. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to request this (we will have spares on the day).
I registered, but am no longer able to help – what shall I do?
Please let us know by email and include your full name and the name of the event to email@example.com. Please try to give us as much notice as possible.
Will I be assigned the volunteer role I applied for?
We will aim to assign you the role you requested at registration. If for any reason this isn’t possible, we may ask you to take on a different role on the day. However, we will discuss this with you to ensure you’re happy and comfortable with this.
What support will I be given?
We will provide you with all the information and support you need to carry out your role on the day. You will have support from your Event Manager and Team Manager on the day. They’ll be lots of people on the team, whether experienced volunteers or members of staff, who will be on hand to offer advice and answer questions.
What should I wear?
All our volunteers will be asked to wear a Milesmaker t-shirt on the day which we'll provide. Please ensure you wear suitable and comfortable clothes and shoes for the outdoors. Please be aware that footwear may get muddy as lots of our venues are on grass. Please check the weather before your event!
Is there anywhere to leave my belongings?
There will be limited space at each venue for volunteer belongings – please note, these will not be secure areas and they will be left at your own risk.
Can I still volunteer if the event is less than 7 days away?
If it’s too late to sign up online, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with details of which event you’d like to volunteer at. If we can’t get back to you before the event, please come along on the day to sign up. Please allow extra time for this.
What benefits do I get for volunteering at an event?
From the moment you sign up as a Milesmaker, you’ll be part of Team Macmillan! As well as meeting lots of new people in your local community or spending a day with family and friends, you’ll also have access to bespoke customer service training from Boots, which we are sure you’ll find useful on the day and beyond. You’ll also receive a special Milesmaker t-shirt and refreshments on the day.
