Natalie Jones, 23 from Llanrumney wanted to celebrate her birthday in a different way this year. With the help of friends and family she raised £1,525 from a charity extravaganza.
Natalie said, ‘I wanted to do something to help others so I decided to host a charity night in the Royal British Legion club, Llanrumney. It was a brilliant event with tons of support from both local people and local businesses - Porky’s Butchers, Tony’s Carnations, Serenity Hair Salon and Virgina Howells Aromatherapy all donated raffle prizes.
'Having seen first hand the invaluable work of Macmillan Cancer Support and the MS Society I decided to split the proceeds from the event. I chose to support Macmillan because of the fantastic help that they gave my Grampy, Gary Jones whilst he was fighting cancer. Sadly he passed away in the summer of last year but he had great support from his Macmillan nurse, Annette.
'I chose to support the MS Society as my Nan, Doreen Campbell, has MS and the work that they are doing is brilliant.
'I had so much fun organising it and everyone who came and supported the event loved it. We will definitely be holding this again next year.’
Rebecca Parke, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said, ‘We are so grateful for the hard work that Natalie and all her friends and family put into the evening. They did a tremendous job and raised a brilliant total for both Macmillan and the MS Society. We are almost entirely funded by donations so every penny raised by Natalie and her family really will make a huge difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.'
