Cara handing over her donation to the Committee
In February 2013 eight year old Cara Macdonald wanted to help raise money for her Granny Rachel’s charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.
Harris youngster Cara has several relatives who've been affected by cancer, including her late granny Rachel, and this inspired her fundraising efforts.
Cara's first event saw her selling cupcakes at a local table-top sale in Harris' community centre where she raised £36. After this taste of success, Cara continued to raise funds by holding one event every month for the rest of the year, while her family set her a target of £1,320 to aim for – the equivalent of funding a Macmillan Nurse for a day.
Cara's fundraising activities ranged from her and her twin brother Connor being sponsored for getting up in time for school, to coffee mornings, bookworm days, raffles, a smile-a-thon and even more table-top sales.
Connor continued to support his sister by donating change from his lunch money to bigger events, which helped Cara meet her fundraising target by July - but she kept on going until the end of the year.
This enterprising young fundraiser raised an amazing £2,310 and Cara happily passed this on to Macmillan’s Isle of Lewis Committee.
The Macdonald family as well as Lewis Committee would like to thank everyone for supporting Cara throughout her incredible year of fundraising events.
