Andy Daw and guests at the dinner on Saturday 8th November 2014
A Charity Dinner and Auction held at Thorpe Park Hotel in November has raised £5506 for Macmillan Cancer Support and St Gemma’s Hospice.
Andy Daw organised the event for the two charities because they supported his father John Daw when he was terminally ill with cancer in 2012.
The event was held in his memory and all his family and friends were in attendance.
The auction had a number of top prizes including a signed Lewis Hamilton baseball cap and a golf ball signed by Tiger Woods. Live entertainment was provided by Duvet, a local covers band.
John Daw passed away in July 2012 aged just 66 and since then, the Daw family have done lots of fundraising to raise funds for the charities that helped them through this difficult time. Rita, John’s wife, has held Macmillan Coffee Mornings, Andy took part in the Yorkshire Warrior Challenge and he also held another large charity dinner last year in Garforth.
Tara Bean from St Gemma’s Hospice said:
“We are delighted that Andy decided to organise another Charity Dinner and Auction this year following on from the success of last year’s event. It was a fantastic evening and we were blown away with the amazing support of everyone that attended, helping to raise £5506 for St Gemma’s Hospice and Macmillan Cancer Support. It is events like these that help St Gemma’s Hospice raise the £24,000 we need each and every day to run our services. The support of the local community and people like Andy means that we can continue providing specialist care to local patients with Cancer and other life limiting illnesses, as well as providing support to families.”
Next year, Andy is looking at holding a large music concert in Leeds to raise funds for the two charities. If any local bands are interested in being involved then they can contact Clara at email@example.com
