With the Easter holidays well and truly over, now is a time when lots of people are looking for a sporting challenge, something to work off all those chocolate eggs. Fundraising for charity is a great way of doing that whilst supporting a good cause at the same time. But what happens to the money you raise?
Last year Macmillan was able to commit over £784,800 in Coventry and Warwickshire, helping to support over 22,300 people living with or beyond cancer across the county. That means there are now around 60 Macmillan professionals working in Coventry and Warwickshire.
One of the latest additions to the team is Sandeep Chahal, Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist in cancers of the female reproductive system – or gynaecological oncology – at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. Sandeep said: ‘It’s my role to provide information, advice and support to women being investigated for, or diagnosed with, a gynaecological cancer.
‘I aim to provide my patients and their carers with continuous support and specialist care planning. We talk, I listen and this is the start of our journey together, underpinning personalised care. My patients are the foundation of my enthusiasm and drive to deliver a service that they know they are the centre of and one I am proud of.
‘The best part of this job is when I know I have got the basics right and patients can identify me as their go-to specialist nurse for advice and support. Macmillan health care professionals have always inspired me because they want to deliver only the best. Holding the Macmillan flag makes me feel honoured.’
So with the support of local fundraisers and volunteers, we can keep supporting posts like Sandeep’s, and team up with partners like University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust to provide the best cancer care possible here in your community. With your help, we can make sure no one in Warwickshire has to face cancer alone.
