West Surrey’s independent estate agent, Seymours, has raised over £2,600 for Macmillan Cancer Support in a Surrey-wide relay that covered 63 miles and 14 of the estate agents’ offices.
The event, which took place on Friday 26 April and saw all of the company’s 18 partners pass the baton from office to office, was launched to celebrate its long-term partnership with the national cancer care and support charity.
Seymours, which celebrates its 21st anniversary later this year, has now raised over £12,000 for Macmillan since it began working with the charity in 2011.
Richard Stovold, partner at the Burpham office, ran the six-mile leg to the Ripley office before handing the baton to Ripley’s partner, Ben Conquer.
On completing The Seymours Relay Richard said: 'Many people have either had a direct or indirect experience of cancer and this event has gone some way to help increase the level of care available to those affected. Our office network is now widespread so running and cycling it was a great challenge for everyone involved. We look forward to continue working with Macmillan and congratulate the charity on its good work.'
The race began at Burpham, moved north to Weybridge and Addlestone before travelling south via Woking, Godalming and Cranleigh. The Relay finished at the Guildford office. The legs of the race ranged from 1.7 miles to 11 miles long and took a total of nine hours to complete.
The Onslow Arms in West Clandon, which is a central point for the estate agent’s office network, provided a perfect place for the team to enjoy a well-earned drink.
Helene Poursain, Surrey Fundraising Manager for Macmillan, said: 'The Seymours Relay has raised enough money to fund a Macmillan Nurse and a Welfare Benefits Advisor for a working week to assist cancer patients and their families with practical and financial support that may arise as a result of a cancer diagnosis. I would like to say a huge thank you to Seymours for tapping into its office network to create a challenging event and to everyone who has donated.'
