The tournament in full flow.
Sandhurst friends Beth Tillyer, Sally Leonard and Andrea Campbell raised more than £2,000 for Macmillan last spring by holding a football tournament.
Held at St Mary’s Twickenham University on April 27 where the girls all graduated from, the tournament was supported by 12 teams from various local groups and companies, including firemen and plumbers.
With refreshments on sale plus a great raffle featuring two signed football shirts, the tournament raised a £2,095, which Barclays generously toped up by adding a further £1,000.
As former students at St Mary’s, these three friends knew of their university's generosity in hiring out facilities for charity events, and Beth Tillyer said, "We were delighted to support Macmillan Cancer Support with the tournament this year and couldn’t have been happier with the turn out."
"We all know people who've been affected by cancer and witnessed the help Macmillan nurses have given to support them, so it feels really positive to give something back. Our friends and family were incredibly supportive too, turning out on the day to cheer teams on - including the winning team Inter-MeNan - and create such a great community spirit at the event."
Helene Poursain, Area Fundraising Manager, said, "It was fantastic to hear about the ladies fundraising efforts, and I'm so pleased that lots of teams turned out to compete for the winning trophy. The money they raised on the day is enough to fund a Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialist for nearly three weeks, providing care and support to cancer patients and their families.
