Sally Millington and Lynn with the star prize
A generous lady took part in a prize draw at the SPAR in Filey, and won the star prize, but rather than keep her winnings, she kindly donated the bike to Macmillan Cancer Support.
The SPAR on Murray Street in Filey ran the prize draw to win a brand new bike before Christmas, which the winner kindly donated to Macmillan.
Sally Millington, fundraising manager for Macmillan along the North Yorkshire Coast, was thrilled, 'This really is such a kind gift that we have received, and it is going to be used to raise money so that we can help people when they are facing cancer; the toughest fight most of us will ever face. But you don’t have to go through it alone. The Macmillan team is with you every step of the way.'
The bike is going to be raffled off at The Star Fest, an annual event now in its 8th year, held at The Star Inn on Mitford Street in Filey. Lynn Barr, landlady at The Star explains, 'We began the Star Fest in 2006, in memory of Chris Wing, a well known local man who had support from Macmillan. It’s a brilliant day with live music, good food and fun and games for all the family. Since the Starfest began we have raised a magnificent £21,777.98 for Macmillan to help people in the area who need them.'
The date for StarFest this year is Sunday 14 July and everyone is welcome to come and join in the fun and help to raise money for Macmillan
