The Wisbech Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising group is calling on local people in Wisbech and the surrounding area with a little or a lot of a time to spare! The group is looking to hear from anyone who would be interested in helping the charity out on a regular or ad hoc basis.
We know that the local community support Macmillan a great deal and we cannot thank you enough for this support. Your support has meant that the Wisbech Macmillan fundraising group raised £40,000 in 2015 to help people affected by cancer in Wisbech. However, we cannot be there for everyone affected by cancer and that’s why we need more people to help so that we can ensure no one in Wisbech faces cancer alone.
Adele Wright, member of the Wisbech Group says: 'Macmillan is such a worthwhile cause so, if there is anyone out there who has a few hours to spare and would like to get involved, we would love to hear from you. Whether it’s a couple of hours a year or a week, it really doesn’t matter, we just need the extra help’.
The group are also asking anyone looking to have a clear out of toys to make contact. The group are always in need of any unwanted toys including soft toys in a good condition to help with their fundraising. Also any balls of wool and unwanted new gifts that anyone would like to donate would be greatly appreciated.
The charity works hard to support people in Wisbech who have been affected by cancer. From funding local nurses to providing essential financial, emotional, medical and practical help to cancer patients and their families.
Around 620 people in Fenland are diagnosed with cancer each year and Macmillan aims to be there to support the cancer patient and their friends and family too. Cancer can be an incredibly lonely experience and the charity is trying to make sure that no one faces cancer alone by aiming to be there for as many people as possible who are affected by the illness, but they still need more support from people who have some time to spare to help make this a reality.
