On Saturday 27 September 2014, Jenny Leyland and Carrie Sargent held a Macmillan Coffee Morning event. Over 200 people attended over the course of the day.
As well as selling lots of yummy cake, tea and coffee, there were mini pampering treatments to be enjoyed by the guests, a raffle and tombola, competitions for the children, face painting and a bouncy castle. Further donations were raised during the evening event where everyone enjoyed listening to an acoustic band and food was laid on for everyone.
The idea came about to hold this fundraising event after Carrie’s dear friend, Miho Coleman, was diagnosed with incurable cancer. Both Jenny and Carrie wanted to do something for Miho and give her something to look forward to. They were also conscious that each and every one of us have either been affected by cancer at some point in their lives. Jenny and Carrie were humbled by the support that was shown by everyone who attended. The money raised will help Macmillan continue to offer continued support to individuals who have cancer as well as their family and friends. Funds raised on the day totalled £2,406.50 which included a sale of loom bands made by Miho’s daughter Sora (aged 8) and niece Poppy (aged 9) which collected around £350.
