January 2010

Hello and happy New Year!

No matter how much time or money you have available in 2010, you can help make a real difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.

Play our 'Warden Brown' online game and help us stamp out unfair parking charges. Find out why Ricky Gervais can't keep quiet, or bag a bargain in our online shop.

Looking for a challenge in 2010? Join our new Ben Nevis walking challenge, or run to change lives in the world's first Kilomathon.

Give car parking charges the boot

Warden Brown car parking gameCancer patients shouldn’t have to pay for hospital parking while receiving their treatment. Almost 60% of patients are still paying the full price for parking, despite Government guidance that hospitals in England should offer cancer patients free or reduced parking.

Play our car parking game and stop 'Warden Brown' from giving you a ticket. Then sign our pledge against this unfair tax on illness.

Highlights from the website

  • Benefits made clear
he benefits system can be a bit of a maze, there’s no doubt about it. That’s why we’ve developed new resources to help people affected by cancer find their way around the system.

Our new interactive online programme takes the user through a series of questions to find out what benefits they may be able to claim. Visit www.macmillan.org.uk/benefitsmadeclear to find out more.

We also have two new booklets on managing your finances and debt. To order these booklets, or to talk to an experienced benefits adviser, please call 0808 808 00 00 or visit be.macmillan.org.uk.

  • Help us freeze out fuel poverty
One in five cancer patients turn the heating off even though they are cold, because they're worried about rising fuel bills. Sign our pledge, or make a donation to help us freeze out fuel poverty for cancer patients.

  • Cancer – thriving and surviving
Would you or someone you know like to learn some tips and techniques to help you improve your quality of life after having cancer? If you would, Macmillan is looking for people to sign up to a free online self-management course called Cancer – surviving and thriving.
