Welcome We hope those of you who attended last week’s event in Leeds have recovered from the hard work (and play!) that was so evident.
If you were unable to attend, don’t worry: you can view all the presentations from the workshop, and listen to and view the plenary sessions via the Learnzone. It’s going to take a couple of weeks to put up everything, so please keep checking! We already have dates for the next event, 6-7 November, with additional overnight accommodation available on 5 November (that date sounds familiar), so put them in your diary now! Further information about the programme will be available on the Learnzone toward the end of July. Online booking will begin in August.

NewsHomes with heartHomes With Heart is an organisation that passes on weeks in private holiday homes to families who really need a break, exchanging one person’s kindness for another’s well deserved rest. It helps families with young children who have a family member suffering from a life-limiting illness. The organisation also supports young families who have suffered a recent bereavement. Houses are available for families to take a break from their treatment together or for relatives to have a rest while their loved one is looked after in a hospice. The organisation is currently seeking holiday homes with wheelchair access. Medical support cannot be offered, although details of local treatment centres can be given where possible. Properties are self-catering. How you can get involvedPrescription charges campaign - what's going on?Thank you if you have already signed up to our campaign against unfair prescription charges. We are already getting responses from MPs, showing that they are engaging in Macmillan’s campaign. The Government has now said that the consultation on prescription charges will be published in the “summer”. The delay is disappointing but it does give us the opportunity to up our campaign a gear and get even more support behind it. Whilst our campaign aim is to get the Government to abolish prescription charges for everyone, if they do refuse to scrap charges altogether after the consultation, the immediate priority is to ensure that no cancer patient is unable to afford to pay for their prescriptions. Join the campaign now and really make a difference. Click here for a quick and easy way to send a letter to your MP and local paper. The letter is already prepared for you to personalise and can be emailed automatically. Send this link to your friends and family and get them to join the campaign too. Change The World – the Campaigns Team wants to hear from youIf you could change one thing to make the world a better place for people affected by cancer, what would it be? Between 10 and 13 June there will be the opportunity to shape Macmillan’s campaign focus for 2009. The Campaigns, Policy and Public Affairs Team will be asking for your ideas at:
Over the past year we have been campaigning to reduce the financial burden of people with cancer; calling for an end to prescription costs and hospital car parking charges, which has seen great success in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We have also campaigned for fairer, more accessible travel insurance and better working conditions for people living with cancer. But what next? Start thinking of ideas for new campaigns now and there will be a prize for the best suggestion.
