Hold your own fundraising event?
Would you like to hold your own fundraising event? Then that's fantastic... and we can help! Why not volunteer your time and organise a fun event that will help raise money for Macmillan and people affected by cancer. We even have a Little Book of Fundraising Ideas that can help. Macmillan has recently discovered that the number of cancer survivors has reached two million, and is growing at a rate of 3.2% a year. We want everyone affected by cancer to receive the right level of treatment and support however to do this we need to continue raising funds...so let's get together. Please call Aimée on 01925 846762.

Fundraising groups
We have fundraising groups in the Warrington, Chester, Halton and Wirral areas. If you are interested in getting involved with any of these groups or setting up your own then please call Aimée on 01925 846762.

The money you raise will help us provide more information to people affected by cancer.

Macmillan Cancer Support has had many successes in Cheshire & Wirral in 2007 including the Macmillan Cancer Unit Appeal at Leighton Hospital in Crewe.

The appeal to raise £1 million locally to help fund this state of the art cancer treatment centre is now complete and the building will be finished and open for patients to use by Spring 2008. The new unit will provide welcoming, attractive and spacious accommodation for all cancer services which previously were scattered throughout the hospital site. The unit will include a drop-in Information Centre and there will be rooms for counseling, complementary therapies and wig fitting. Crucially, there will be space for more local people to receive chemotherapy at Leighton than was possible previously, saving them tiring and expensive visits to the Christie Hospital in Manchester.

Hundreds of people living in Cheshire and Wirral use our free telephone CancerLine, visit our information centres at Clatterbridge Hospital and Macclesfield Hospital or drop into our mobile information centre when it visits the area.

Young people aged 12-21 are offered the YouthLine and there is also the opportunity for people affected by Cancer to talk to others in similar situations on the Share section of our website.

We run a Macmillan benefits advice helpline and have Macmillan benefits advisers based at Clatterbridge Hospital and Leighton Hospital. We also offer small grants to help patients with one off costs, for example a warm duvet or travel fares to hospital. Last year we gave more than £220,000, in grants to more than 550 people affected by cancer in Cheshire and Wirral.

Macmillan works with the NHS and other health and social care partners in your area to improve the lives of people affected by cancer today. Thanks to the generosity of local people who support Macmillan, local people affected by cancer and their families are being helped by over 100 Macmillan nurses, doctors and specialists, such as physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and pharmacists, helping people in hospitals and in the community throughout Cheshire & Wirral.

We also fund a carer scheme in Cheshire to ease the load for carers and provide a much needed break.
We need your continuing support to help us reach everyone affected by cancer in Cheshire & Wirral.
