Follow up after treatment
The cancer and its treatment may have caused physical problems and sometimes these effects, such as learning difficulties, or deficiencies in physical growth and development, are not evident for many years later. Teachers should speak with the parent(s), school nurse or seek medical advice from the child’s medical team liaison if they see signs of the child encountering learning difficulties. This will enable effective support to be planned and implemented. If feasible and depending on the child’s level of understanding, it is a good idea to include them in parts of the planning required. Here are a few tips from teachers and medical staff.
