Commenting on the Care Bill Report Stage debate that took place yesterday, Mike Hobday, Director of Policy and Research at Macmillan Cancer Support, says:
'We are delighted that the Government has committed to strengthen the Care Bill. This will mean the NHS in England must now work with local authorities to identify those who provide vital caring support to its patients.
'For far too long, cancer carers have been left to cope with the relentless strain of caring alone because they haven’t been identified by the NHS and signposted to vital support.
'This legislative change, which Macmillan has long campaigned for, will be a key step in ensuring cancer carers get the information and support they need and deserve. We will be working to ensure the Government’s guidance on implementing this change is robust and transforms cancer carers’ lives for the better.'
