• Millie Mackintosh is the latest celeb to get involved, nominating husband Professor Green and TV chef Gizzi Erskine
Celebrities including Richard Branson and Millie Mackintosh have taken on the #IceBucketChallenge for Macmillan, helping the charity to raise a huge £250,000. To date almost 85,000 supporters have bravely completed the icy charades, resulting in Macmillan’s most successful social text to donate campaign ever and raising enough money to fund five Macmillan nurses for a year. But it’s only just beginning…
This August, famous faces across the worlds of sport, music and entertainment are choosing to show their support for a chosen charity in a slightly more chilling way than usual. Here in the UK, Macmillan needs even more people to get involved and help raise money for people affected by cancer. The challenge is simple, those taking part must film themselves dropping a bucket of freezing cold ice water over their head before sending a victory text - ICE to 70550 to donate £3 to help ensure that no one faces cancer alone – before uploading a film to social media.
The great thing about the #IceBucketChallenge? Once the challenge has been braved, the nominating rights are all yours – whether it’s a friend, family member or even a colleague, you can nominate whoever you like to complete the challenge within 24 hours. However, if it’s looking a little chilly outside, forfeiters can instead text FINE to 70550, donating £10 to give the icy dousing a miss. So what are you waiting for? Choose wisely...!
Macmillan first spotted this craze in New Zealand in July where people were taking on the challenge for a cancer charity. It has since spread across the world with people choosing to side step the appeal films and charity selfies and instead throwing a bucket of ice water over their head before posting the film online for all to see!
Macmillan is extremely grateful to all supporters who have helped raise money for people affected by cancer in the UK by taking on the #IceBucketChallenge. There are currently 2 million people in the UK living with cancer, with this figure set to double by 2030 and therefore Macmillan urgently needs to raise money to help those who need our support now and in the future.
