With cancer survivors being 1.4 times more likely to be unemployed than people who have not had cancer, the National Cancer Survivorship Initiative (NCSI) identified that this was an important area of development. The NCSI subsequently ran a vocational rehabilitation project, which featured in the winter 2011 edition of Sharing good practice. The final report is now available online. The project has developed Macmillan’s understanding of what people with cancer need if and when they choose to return to or continue to work through their treatment. The project has also helped identify a strategic model of cancer work support that presents a blueprint for service configuration.
