Our partnership with P&O Cruises

P&O Cruises’ employees and its fleet of eight ships have hosted a number of exciting activities and events to raise money for Macmillan since our partnership launched.

In 2015 P&O Cruises surpassed the incredible £1 million fundraising milestone for Macmillan. We celebrated the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning alongside Captain Pembridge and celebrity chef and ‘P&O Cruises Food Hero’ Eric Lanlard on board their new ship Britannia.

One of the local projects to benefit from the funds raised by a team from the head office in Southampton, is the new Macmillan Healing Garden at Southampton General Hospital. The team took part in the tough Isle of Wight Challenge, a 106km hike around the island, helping to fund the complete refurbishment of the garden at the Macmillan Cancer Information Centre. Thanks to their efforts, people affected by cancer and their families now have a tranquil place where they can enjoy some peace and quiet together during treatment.

'To know the trek has helped contribute to such an incredible amount is absolutely brilliant.' Hannah Matthews, P&O Cruises events co-ordinator

Passengers have also jumped on board to support the partnership, taking part in events and making generous auction bids for unique keepsakes such as signed navigational charts. A number of cruises have also been kindly donated as prizes for Macmillan’s prestigious social events, raffles and lottery.

Paul Ludlow, recently appointed Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at P&O Cruises says, 'I am very proud of our staff, crew and passengers for reaching this incredible milestone. It is down to their dedication and generosity that we have been able to provide vital services likes the healing garden for people affected by cancer. As the newest member of the P&O Cruises team, I look forward to growing the partnership so that we can work together to find new ways to help support people affected by cancer in Southampton and beyond.'

Partnership Manager at Macmillan, Rachel Gascoigne said, ‘We’re delighted that P&O Cruises is raising vital funds and awareness of Macmillan among staff and passengers. By working with us, P&O Cruises is helping us to ensure that no one has to face cancer alone.'
