Dr Roxane Heaton BEM, Chief Information Officer

Digital, data and technology make such a difference to our everyday lives. Community, collaboration and doing what is right, with the right technology and with the user at the heart are common themes across all of Roxane’s work.

Roxane leads our Technology directorate, an ambitious team of experts who are driving the organisation forward through innovative and effective technology solutions. The team is currently undertaking the digital transformation of Macmillan, which is changing how we support people living with cancer. This includes integrating our online and offline services to improve and transform the experiences people have with Macmillan.

Roxane joined Macmillan as Chief Information Officer in September 2021. Before this, she gained public and private sector experience in a range of roles including an Officer within the Royal Navy, a Director in the Civil Service, and roles from Head of Technology through to Digital and Innovation Director at supermarket chain, Morrisons.

She is a keen STEM Ambassador, passionate about inspiring future generations and creating inclusion, equity and opportunities available to all. She won the everywoman in Technology awards Woman of the Year in 2015 and was selected for the Northern Power Women Future List in 2018, and the TechWomen 100 in 2020. She was named Digital Leader of the Year in 2019.

Roxane holds three Master degrees including in Engineering and an MBA. She also holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) in digital inclusion.

In 2022 Roxane was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to Digital Technology during Covid-19.

Roxane lives on the South Coast and is married to Sean, who is in the Royal Navy. They have a rescue whippet, Flash, and she enjoys being outdoors and exploring the country while meeting up with old friends and meeting new friends along the way. She is a GB Age Group Duathlete and competes at World Championship level, which takes her to new places around the world to explore, including Australia and New Zealand where her family live.
