How do I apply for a Team Macmillan Guaranteed Place?
Team Macmillan has purchased some guaranteed places in the Great Manchester Run, which we will allocate to runners who have missed out on obtaining their own place. In return for one of these we ask for a minimum sponsorship pledge of £250.
To apply, complete and return our Team Macmillan Application Form.
You will then need to contact us within 72 hours to check whether you have been successful. Email greatmanchesterrun@macmillan.org.uk or call 020 7840 7875. We will begin allocating our guaranteed places once the official entry system has closed.

If the race organisers have filled all their places when you apply we may be able to offer you one of our Team Macmillan guaranteed places – to secure one you must telephone or email us after you have returned your completed application form. How much money do I have to raise?
We ask that all our Guaranteed Place runners pledge to raise a minimum of £250. This will be due in two months after the event (18 July 2008). Of course we'll give you all the encouragement and support you'll need to make sure you smash that target.
If you have your Own Place then we just ask you to raise as much as possible and we'll provide you with the same level of care and support that our guaranteed place runners receive.

What kind of support will Macmillan give me if I join the team?
When you join Team Macmillan you will be supported throughout your entire BUPA Great Manchester Run experience. In addition to our initial fundraising pack, we'll send you regular newsletters with tips to help you prepare for the big day. You will also be invited to come and see us at the Charity Village after the race for some well deserved snacks and refreshments. And if that isn't enough, we will give you the loudest support possible throughout the race from before the start and at our supporter points.

What happens if I get injured?
f you are injured whilst training we recommend you contact your GP or a specialist sports injury clinic. They will be able to advise you if you are fit enough to run. If you do need to withdraw you will need to notify the race organisers as soon as possible and return your race number and running chip (if you have received them by then). Please also let Macmillan know that you will not be running so we can advise you about deferring your place to the 2008 race.

When will I get my race number?
In April the race organisers you will send you your race number and your running chip. These are vital and you will not be able to start the race without them.

What difference will my sponsorship make?
The BUPA Great Manchester Run is a major fundraising event for Macmillan Cancer Support, raising over £102,000 in 2007. We hope to make it even more successful in 2008. Your support will go a huge way to help people affected by cancer, for example:
-
£50 could buy a liquidizer for someone who can't eat solid food.
-
£180 could allow someone with cancer to keep the heating on when they really need it.
-
£250 could fund a Macmillan physiotherapist for over two days.
-
£350 could pay for a much-needed holiday for someone with cancer and their carer.
-
£100,000 could pay for a two room palliative care suite in a hospital.
