Description of the central nervous system image
This diagram shows the nerves of the body. The view is of the back of the body starting with the head, which contains the brain. Leading from this is the spinal cord. The spinal cord runs from the neck to the bottom of the back. All the nerves then lead off from the spinal cord, and like a branch of a tree, smaller nerves lead off from these. They become smaller as they go further away from the spinal cord. The smallest ones, which are in the hands and feet and near the edge of the body, are called peripheral nerves.
