Morecambe Bay

Enjoy an exhilarating family walk across the famous Morecambe Bay. Along the way you'll head through enchanting woodland and wade through the channel of the River Kent before heading to the finish at Kents Bank railway station. Throughout the walk you will be guided by Cedric Robinson, MBE, the Queen's Guard to the Sands.

Location
The start will be at The Cross Bay Assembly Point, opposite the Albion Pub, the Promenade, Arnside. The registration desk will be located in the shelter by the clock tower opposite the public toilets on the Lower Promenade. 

The finish will be at Kents Bank station, Grange-over-Sands, LA11 7BG.

How to get there
Walkers should park at Grange-over-Sands and then make the short journey by train to the start point at Arnside. The registration point is a few minutes walk from Arnside Train Station. On completion, walkers will need to get the train from Kents Bank Station to Grange-over-Sands.  

Registration
Open from 1.45pm - 3.00pm.
The walk will begin at 3.00pm. As this is a guided walk, all walkers must start with Cedric Robinson and the main walking party.

Walk duration
The eight mile walk will take approximately three hours to complete. 

Challenging aspects
The walk is manageable for most abilities, but it is not suitable for children under 9 years of age. All children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult. For safety, a tractor with trailer accompanies walkers to transport children if they get too tired. 

Suitability for pushchairs and/or wheelchairs
Unsuitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Suitability for dogs
This walk is suitable for dogs, but they must be kept on a lead at all times. 

Car parking
There are a variety of car parks in Grange-over-Sands and some at the finish point in Kents Bank. Parking at the starting point in Arnside is not recommended as spaces are very limited.

Public transport
A train service runs from Grange-over-Sands to the start of the walk at Arnside and on completion of the walk from Kents Bank to Grange-over-Sands. You can check the train times by calling 08457 484 950. For those without cars, regular buses run to Grange-over-Sands from around Cumbria.

Toilets
There are toilet facilities available at the start and finish of the walk. 

Refreshments & picnicking
Bottles of water will be provided at the start of the walk. There are a variety of cafes in Arnside. Light refreshments will be provided at the end of the walk.

Don't forget to bring
Old trainers or sandals are recommended as you will get wet and may well get muddy while crossing the bay. Jeans, wellies and leather walking boots are not recommended. It would be advisable to bring along a waterproof jacket for any unpredictable weather changes.

Other information
In the event of heavy rainfall prior to the walk the route may need to be reversed and we will start from Kents Bank, therefore, all participants must provide a contact number (ideally a mobile number) which they will be available on 24 hours before the walk begins.
