Fundraising tips

Add another fun element to your day and raise even more money for people living with cancer.

Fundraising ideas

  • Get baking and ask for a donation for your sweet treats on the day of the walk
  • Wear fancy dress and ask for a higher donation if you complete the walk in your outfit, facepaint, wig or crazy hat.
  • Hold a competition to see who on your walk or in your walking group can raise the most money. Ask a local retailer to donate a prize for the winner of the competition.

Sponsorship form

Your sponsorship form is included in 'Your Next Steps' which you receive once you have registered. You may photocopy this form for your fellow walkers or you can download more forms from the Downloads page.

  • When using your sponsorship form, make sure the first amount pledged is a generous one – it will encourage others to follow suit!
  • Make sure your sponsors fill in their full name and home address so we can claim Gift Aid on their donation and make it 25% bigger.

Gift Aid it

We need your sponsorship form to claim Gift Aid from Inland Revenue and to make each of your sponsor's pledged amounts 25% bigger! Please make sure your sponsors have filled in their full name and home address, ticked the Gift Aid box and we will do the rest.*

* Gift Aid does not apply to non-UK tax payers, Isle of Man and Channel Islands residents.

Getting the media involved for your own walk

Using the local media to help publicise your walk will increase the number of people who support you – and help you raise even more money for people living with cancer.

It's free and very simple:

  • Around two weeks before your event, make a list of your local newspapers and radio stations – you will find these online or in the yellow pages.
  • Fill in the pre-event press release which you can download from the Downloads page
  • Send them marked to the 'news editor' (newspapers) or 'forward planning desk' (radio). Keep a copy in case anyone phones you with questions.
