Macmillan 4x4 UK Challenge

The Macmillan 4x4 UK Challenge is a long-distance four-wheel drive navigational endurance event in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, starting in the West Midlands and covering up to 1000 miles in less than three days.

Julia Bradbury…

TV presenter Julia Bradbury, co-host of BBC One's 'Watchdog' and Five's 'The Rough Guide to...', will co-drive a Land Rover Defender in the 2009 run.

Julia chose to take part in the Mac 4x4 after the Bradbury family lost a dear friend who was supported by Macmillan nurses to the end.

The Mac 4x4 aims to test navigational skills, observation, on- and off-road driving ability and endurance; by day and night.

You don't need a challenge truck to take part – any sensibly equipped 4x4 should be up to the event. Initially teams only know where they are starting from, the route being kept top secret until roadbooks are handed out along the way.

Teams undertake to raise a minimum sponsorship, currently £600 and all sponsorship received goes to Macmillan Cancer Support. Competitors pay for their fuel and sustenance en route. The costs of organising the event are covered by the entry fee. This includes an Award Dinner and hotel accommodation on the final night.

The event currently raises £100,000 every year for Macmillan and people affected by cancer.

The Mac 4x4 2009 event takes place between March 6-8. All Places have been allocated for the 2009 event but there is a reserve list application form. For more details please visit  www.mac4x4.co.uk.
