How the challenge works

Find out how the challenge works - from planning your day, to scoring so that you're eligible for the fantastic prizes!

Planning your day

Nick Dougherty with last year's winning team1. Recruit a team of three or four players. Under 18s can enter the event, though there must be at least one adult (over 18 years) in each team. Pairs or single golfers can also take part but will not be eligible for the prizes.

2. Register for the challenge, if you haven't already done so. Ensure your registration form includes your captain's and players' names, your team name and contact details. Register online now >

3. Choose a date to play your 72 holes in June or July 2008. Remember you will need a day with enough daylight to complete four rounds of golf.

4. Contact your local golf course(s) and book your four rounds. Don't forget to mention that the challenge is to raise money for Macmillan; the course might waive its green fees.

5. Tell everyone about your golfing challenge! Encourage friends, family, colleagues, your employer and fellow golfers to take part in the challenge, sponsor you, or support you on the day.

Helpful tip: You could organise to wear team golf shirts for your event!

Scoring

A team at last year's finalCalculate your best two Stableford scores per hole and enter your final score for each of your four rounds.

Please complete your team scorecard detailing your team name, the captain's name, reference number, scores for each of the four rounds and the total amount of sponsorship raised. The scores for each of your four rounds will be combined with your total sponsorship money raised to calculate your final result.

You must send in your scores and sponsorship money by 12 September 2008 in order to be eligible for the finals at Parque da Floresta Golf and Leisure Resort, Western Algarve, and the prize draw for the golf event at Wentworth Golf Club with Nick Dougherty.

'During my sister's illness, we received tremendous support from Macmillan. Taking on the Longest Day Golf Challenge is something I can enjoy and will help fund services that
made a huge difference to my family.'
