Ospreys pin ups help people living with cancer
Wednesday, 07 May 2008, Wales
Rugby legends, the Ospreys, have teamed up with Macmillan Cancer Support to help launch its new 'Pin Up' campaign in Wales. The team is asking fans to wear the charity's distinctive green safety pin to help people affected by cancer.
The club helped Macmillan launch the bilingual pins at its match against Edinburgh at the Liberty Stadium. The pins will be on sale for a suggested donation of £1 at the club's shop along with Somerfield stores across Wales from 2 May.
The Ospreys' very own pinups, Wales International, Ian Evans, and lock, Cai Griffiths, are urging everyone to go green and become a pin up themselves.
Ian Evans said:
"I'm really proud to 'pin up' and help people living with cancer. Macmillan's work is absolutely vital and so I'd like to encourage our fans throughout Wales to become 'pin ups' too."
More than 60,000 people in Wales are living with cancer today and even more people including families, friends, carers and children are affected. Macmillan helps them by providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support.
Macmillan is encouraging everyone to sport the green safety pin in their own imaginative way from decorating their phone, bags and even using it to repair everyday mishaps. Every penny donated will go towards Macmillan's vital work helping people affected by cancer.
Cath Lindley, General Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in Wales said:
"Macmillan provides help and support for people living with cancer but we can only do this with your help. By following in the Ospreys' footsteps and wearing a green safety pin you will be helping to change the lives of people throughout Wales who are living with cancer."
The pin will be available at all Somerfield stores along with many other businesses across Wales. For more information go to www.macmillan.org.uk/pinup
