There are now over 90 Macmillan health professionals in Northern Ireland working in hospitals and in the community. Macmillan supports people when they are first diagnosed and during their illness. There are eight Macmillan consultants who are specialists in palliative care, focusing on pain and symptom control. There are also nine Macmillan GP facilitators who spend part of their week sharing their skills and knowledge with other healthcare colleagues.
For the first time in Northern Ireland Macmillan has four palliative care occupational therapists and four palliative care physiotherapists.
We aim to improve cancer care throughout Northern Ireland by fundraising in four local appeals:
The Craigavon Appeal is funding more Macmillan nurses and doctors in the Southern Board area as well as the first Macmillan building at Craigavon Area Hospital. This new building provides a chemotherapy, breast care unit and out-patient facility.
The Western Appeal also provides more Macmillan nurses and doctors in Altnagelvin Area Hospital, Tyrone County Hospital in Omagh and the Erne Hospital in Enniskillen.
The Eastern Appeal will enhance the services in the Greater Belfast Area by providing more Macmillan nursing and medical staff.
This appeal will also fund the development of a Macmillan Support and Information Centre based at Belfast City Hospital.
This will be the first purpose built centre of its kind in Northern Ireland, bringing together a wide range of services for people affected by cancer including:

Counselling
These services will be available to people affected by cancer from right across Northern Ireland, many of whom will be attending the City Hospital for treatment.
The new Macmillan Support and Information Centre will be located in Wilmot Terrace, one of Belfast's best known listed buildings. It will open in parallel with the development of the new Northern Ireland Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital.
And the Northern Appeal will provide additional Macmillan health professionals in the Northern Board area, which includes Antrim Area Hospital, Mid-Ulster Hospital in Magherafelt and Robinson Hospital in Ballymoney.
