Macmillan is supporting more people in Surrey

Every year nearly 5,000 people in Surrey are told they have cancer.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters in 2007, 837 people in Surrey were able to access reliable cancer information and emotional support through Macmillan's Cancerline and we gave over £92,000 in financial grants, which helped over 200 people in Surrey cope with everyday costs of living with cancer such as travel expenses, mortgage repayments and prescription charges.

There are over 70 Macmillan nurses and healthcare professionals in Surrey working with local people living with cancer to provide advice and support.

This year we are raising funds to pay for:

  • a Macmillan Gynaecological Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist who will be based at East Surrey Hospital
  • a Macmillan Lead Community Clinical Nurse Specialist who will be based at Woking Hospice
  • two part-time Macmillan Welfare Rights Advisors who are based at Guildford Citizens Advice Bureau. Since starting in January 2008 the Macmillan Welfare Rights Advisors have helped over 50 people in Surrey access more than £169,000 in extra income.

Funds raised will also continue to help finance the Macmillan Cancerline, the Macmillan Benefits Helpline and Macmillan financial grants.
