Local volunteering

It's not all about tin rattling you know! Its about being part of who we are and what we stand for; Macmillan Cancer Support, a force for change. Help us by donating some of your priceless spare time to help; in the office with admin and answering the phone, talking to schools, distributing leaflets, researching local corporate businesses, helping at events – organising events, collecting cheques on our behalf, becoming an Ambassador and telling people about the work we do and how they can help, stuff a few envelopes or yes you can even shake a tin! Call Jo or Kim on 01869 322279.

The money you raise will help us provide more information to people affected by cancer.

We will be funding 3 Macmillan clinical nurse specialists including a new Mesothelioma Specialist nurse - Mesothelioma is a very rare type of lung cancer caused specifically from exposure to asbestos or chemicals from the manufacturing industries.  This nurse will work as part of the Lung Cancer team at the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals. Macmillan nurses provide care, support and information from the moment someone is diagnosed with cancer. They help people make choices about their treatment and managing symptoms, side effects as well as giving much needed emotional support to people and their families.

Macmillan currently supports over 36 health and social care professionals across the County.  It may surprise you that not all of these are nurses.  We have a variety of posts including a new Macmillan Benefits Advisor. The Benefits Advisor provides a service at the Maggie's Centre, Churchill Hospital in Oxford and at the Horton Hospital in Banbury. Helping people access much needed financial help at a very difficult time.

The Macmillan children and family support worker at the child bereavement charity SeeSaw. The journey of bereavement is hard and long SeeSaw offers a safe place for children to talk.

We are also funding a Macmillan user involvement project, where patients and carers have crucial input into the future of cancer services across the local cancer network; we are also funding two professionals as part of this project; a Macmillan network user involvement facilitator and a Macmillan network information facilitator.
