Why do you need me?
To be a representative of Macmillan in schools across the Isle of Man giving talks to school groups to develop support in particular to cover the topic of cancer, cancer care, Macmillan's work and to encourage fundraising.
What activities will I be involved in?

Giving talks to classes and assemblies within both secondary and primary schools

Attending cheque presentations

Promoting Macmillan to schools

Recruiting support from schools for fundraising and Cancertalk (Macmillan's children's education week)
What skills and abilities will I need to have?

Confident speaking in front of groups of children of all ages

Outgoing, bright and engaging personality

Ability to use own initiative and work unsupervised

Interest/experience within a schools environments

Knowledge of appropriate talk/presentation techniques for different age groups
What are the goals?

To work effectively with the local Macmillan team to build and maintain relationships in schools

To support fundraising targets for The Big Hush and other schools fundraising initiatives

To improve the understanding of cancer and cancer care in school communities
How much time should I offer?
The role requires flexibility, as schools request visits on an ad-hoc basis.
What days of the week/time of day would you need me?
You would need to be available during school and office hours on a flexible basis.
Where will I be based?
You will be based at home with regular contact from the local Macmillan team.
Will I need my own transport?
Yes. Volunteers will be asked to organise their own transport to and from the schools. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Is there an induction and training?
You will receive an induction when you start. We will provide any training you need to complete the role.
What ongoing support/guidance will there be?
Support from the local Macmillan team and you will be updated on the success of the team!
Will my expenses be paid?
We pay volunteers' "out-of-pocket" expenses within agreed guidelines. Please contact us if you would like further information on expenses.
Do I need to provide feedback?
Thorough evaluation is an essential part of the pilot. We will contact you after each visit to see how you felt it went. We will also ask you to fill in a short evaluation form which will help us improve the programme.
