On Sunday 17 June Simon Norwood from Leominster took on the challenge of a lifetime when he entered the UK National Ironman Championship.
Taking on this gruelling event Simon had to swim 1.2 miles, cycle 56 miles, and then run 13 miles. Spurring him on were the fond thoughts of his late mum and dad who lived in Hereford and all the money he raised was donated to the Macmillan Renton Appeal, in memory of them.
Simon's mum Jean died nine years ago and his father Les, a well known livestock buyer, died five years ago. They both had cancer, so Simon was keen to help the appeal. Simon said:
"Life is about challenges. Mum and Dad both received chemotherapy and had to travel to Cheltenham for treatment so it was important for me to do the challenge in their memory.
"It was such a wonderful feeling and very emotional to see my son Ben waiting for me at the finishing line and it made all the pain and effort worthwhile".
