Raising funds for people living with cancer in East Sussex
The Sussex fundraising team works together with volunteers, local groups, individuals, people affected by cancer, local businesses and Macmillan professionals to create awareness about Macmillan and raise funds to help improve the lives of people living with cancer and their families.
In East Sussex, we have Macmillan professionals (nurses, doctors and other healthcare specialists) based at the Sussex Cancer Centre in Brighton, as well as at hospitals in Eastbourne, Hastings, Uckfield and in community settings across the county. We also provide emotional support through psychologists and family support workers who care not just for the person living with cancer, but their family as well.
Some of the local cancer services we are currently funding include:
-
A dietitian working across the whole Sussex Cancer Network who advises people with throat and neck cancers on the nutrition they need to improve recovery
-
A GP Facilitator for the Eastbourne area who works with local GPs to make sure they have the most up to date information regarding the care of people with cancer
-
A carer outreach worker based at the Carers Centre in Brighton who supports the carers of people affected by cancer get the help they need.
We need your support to raise funds to continue providing specialist services for local people with cancer. Our aim is to help everyone affect by cancer by 2010 and to do this, we need your help.
Join us by taking part in our Peacehaven abseil, sponsored Windmill Walk or World's Biggest Coffee Morning; organise your own fundraising event or collection, or join a local fundraising committee.
At Macmillan, we find that a powerful way to gain support for our work is by using personal stories to illustrate how we have helped people affected by cancer. These stories are about people who have benefited from Macmillan's services. Should you wish to share your personal story with us, then please contact Laura Palmer on 01273 746601 or e-mail: lpalmer@macmillan.org.uk
